Wei Juene Chong

RMIT University and CSIRO

Australia

Biography

After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2019 at Monash University, Australia, Juene started her Masters by Research degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in 2021. She is now completing her PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at RMIT University and CSIRO, Australia. Her research efforts are directed towards developing 3D printable polymers that are biodegradable, biocompatible, and functionalized with biomedical properties, to enable the creation of intricate bespoke biomedical devices in a time- and cost-effective manner. Her project aims to introduce antibacterial properties into a commercially available and widely used thermoplastic for Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) known as Polylactic acid (PLA), through the incorporation of highly antibacterial Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. The ultimate goal of her project is to realize the rapid and cost-effective customization of medical devices with intrinsic antibacterial properties. She is actively sharing the key findings of her research project by publishing in prestigious peer-reviewed journals in the field and delivering talks at selected conferences.
